InterGreat Education Group is the official partner of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), a Chinese government-affiliated association similar to the British Council. CEAIE is responsible for the recruitment of foreign teachers to Chinese state schools and universities.
Driven by their mission to strengthen international relations through language and cultural exchange, CEAIE established the Teach in China Programme in 2015 and has continued to offer this funded programme to encourage foreign graduates to teach English in China

As this is a government-sponsored programme established to strengthen China’s international relations through exchange, it is a funded opportunity with no additional fees and no tricks.
How it works
In order to be eligible for this opportunity to teach English in China, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Citizens of UK/Australia/New Zealand/South Africa/USA/Canada/Ireland
- Native English Speaker
- Clean Criminal Record
- 22-55 years old
- Bachelor’s Degree or above (Any Subject)
- Teaching certificate (TEFL/TESOL etc.) or be willing to study for a free TEFL certificate

- Once you’re happy to go ahead with the programme, InterGreat Education Group will start the application process with you and be there to support you every step of the way
- This process will consist of:
- Helping you to enrol and complete the online TEFL course
- Guiding you through the Visa application
- Arranging interviews with the schools
- InterGreat Education Group will be available to answer any questions you may have throughout the whole process as you start your journey to teach English in China.
Arrive in China!
- You’ll be welcomed to China by a CEAIE representative at the airport who will help you settle in. You’ll have 2 weeks of English teacher training to help prepare you for your new adventure!
- Once training has been completed, you will be sent to your school. An employee of the school will help you get settled into your new accommodation, introduce you to the other foreign teachers and answer any questions you might have.
- Teach in China placements are 1 academic year (10 months) but you have the option to stay longer if you’re not ready to leave!

For those candidates without a TEFL qualification, there will be a 200 GBP deposit for the online TEFL course which will be returned to you once you have received your visa.
You may incur visa costs, which could be partially or fully reimbursed by your school. However, it's important to note that not all placements guarantee reimbursement, so consider this as a possible expense.
Your students will attend state schools, ranging from primary to secondary levels, with ages spanning from 4 to 18 years old. If you have a preference for teaching a specific grade level, it can be taken into consideration.
All schools are government-run state schools. Safe and regulated.
Teaching in China is highly rewarding, even if you don't plan to pursue a career in education. As a foreign teacher, you'll have the opportunity to conduct engaging classes and enjoy ample free time to explore and relax in China.
Fluency in Mandarin is not a requirement for the program. You can fully experience daily life in China without being a fluent Mandarin speaker, although you'll likely pick up some words naturally upon arrival.
No, there are no fees payable to InterGreat. InterGreat is paid by CEAIE to assist in recruiting graduates for the program and provide support and guidance during the pre-departure stage. CEAIE do not take direct applications for the programme and only recruits through approved channels.
InterGreat takes a deposit payment for the online TEFL course, which is returned once the candidate has received their visa.
Upon your arrival in China, your school will assign a mentor teacher to assist you with teaching and daily life matters. Additionally, you'll be connected with other program teachers to provide peer support and address any questions or concerns you may have.
No teaching experience is required to apply for the program. Before departure, you will complete a free online TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course, followed by two weeks of teacher training in China before you begin teaching.
No, an undergraduate degree in any field is sufficient. You do not need to have a specific degree in education to be eligible for the program.
During the application process, we will inquire about your preferred location. However, we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned to your desired location. There are positions available in various provinces, including Beijing, Chongqing, Fujian, Guangdong, Guizhou, Hebei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanghai, Sichuan, and Zhejiang.
Yes, teaching in China is generally safe, including for solo female travellers. While petty theft near tourist attractions and potential scams targeting visitors are risks like in any other country, staying vigilant and using common sense can help avoid such situations.
